Kang Minje moves the traces of suppressed emotion into matter.
The emotion he works with is the hollowness of a youth
pressed down within the system.
It recalls han, the Korean sentiment of an earlier age.
Instead of slick digital data, he treats the photograph as an object
with mass and flesh, folding the print and intervening by hand
in extreme push development and printing.
Because he believes the fact that it was there still carries weight,
he calls himself a photographer in the AI imaging era.
His work asks again after the place of the body,
lost in technological acceleration.
